The Kryptgarden Forest is located in the vale to the Southeast of the Western and North ridges of the Sword Mountains. This dark and evil place has a fell reputation throughout the Sword Coast. Even hardened adventurers fall silent at the mention of this deadly forest. Where the name Kryptgarden came from is long forgotten, but the wise agree that the name is peculiarly appropriate. Some hold that the name is a holdover from the days of the Delzoun dynasty, and was given in recognition of the many dwarves whose lives were lost in the region. Others believe the name is of more recent origin. None would argue that the menace implied by the name is misplaced.

The Kryptgarden Forest is home to many dangers. Dragons are known to lair in the many caverns that penetrate the Sword Mountains. Tribes of unusually fierce orcs make their homes in the forest. It is not known if there is any connection between the orc tribes of Kryptgarden Forest and the Black Orcs of Westwood, but geography suggests that there may well be a kin relationship. Regardless, it does not pay to take the threat of the Kryptgarden orcs lightly. Many a traveler has learned this lesson the hard way.
