The Mere of Dead Men is located to the South of Leilon. This festering swamp was created hundreds of years ago by the mad lich Iniarv, who was asked for aid in defeating the ferocious orc tribes of the Sword Mountains in the days of the Three Kingdoms. His answer was to flood the land with water from the Trackless Sea, killing defenders and invaders alike. The region gets its name from the massive loss of life that took place when Iniarv caused this flood.

Many fearsome creatures roam the Mere of Dead Men. Some power has animated many of the warriors who fought against the orcs in bygone days, so attacks by undead are commonplace. The Mere is also the home of large, poisonous snakes, and possibly of even larger reptiles: dragons. Black dragons are known to favor swamps, and the Mere of Dead Men is one of the largest swamp areas in all of Faerun. Let all travelers beware!

Game Notes: There are no patrols in the swamp, making it a very dangerous place for travelers. In addition to being attacked by inhabitants of the swamp, there is also a risk of assault by evil adventurers.
